Counter strike is one of those games which never go out of style. In fact, it is the most memorable game of its kind and the only one who has stood the test of time. The most popular version is Counter Strike 1.6 and it is no surprise that millions of gamers are still interested in creating custom servers, spray logos and even maps.

Mapping is the most interesting part of this game and many advanced players have turned into mappers over night. Some of them simply wanted to play their favorite game on a familiar or custom level, but others did it because they wanted to offer something back to the community. All of the programs you need for creating a map are free and many tutorials are available online. This means that all you need for creating your own CS map is a computer and a lot of patience.

Most people don't know this, but when this game first appeared, only a handful of maps were available. On the same mapping platform used by the people at Valve, many gamers have started to create their own maps which have been downloaded literally by millions: fy_snow, aim_map or fy_iceworld are just some of many famous examples.

Keeping the game fresh is easier because we can now all add our contribution to it and some do it better than others. Creating a simple map doesn't take more than a couple of hours and complicated maps will require days if not weeks. The best part of it all is that you don't need to have a high performance PC because neither the game nor the mapping editor requires high resources.
